Genecare Molecular Genetics (Pty) Ltd is a leading biotechnology company established in 2002 to meet the increasing demand for molecular diagnostics in clinical practice. Genecare offers genetic counseling and routine genetic testing based on the development and validation of technologically advanced molecular genetic tests. The company’s aim is to facilitate disease prevention through early detection and targeted treatment.

Genecare’s tests are used to detect the presence, absence or alteration of a particular gene or chromosome in relation to a particular disorder. Genecare currently performs the widest range of molecular genetic tests in South Africa.

In addition, Genecare has established a Healthnet Data Base, an initiative to bridge the gap between science and service, which is open to all health professionals interested in practicing in the genomic era. Health Professionals receive training & information on the latest genetic tests that they can incorporated into their practices as well as the facility to tap into the support groups of Drs, Dieticians, Genetic Counsellors and Geneticists.

Role of Intern

Charlotte’s job focuses on Professional Development, Genecare’s Corporate Wellness Program, as well as Paternity testing and Human Identification. Her main responsibility is to host genetic workshops for health professionals, co-ordinate corporate wellness programs and ensure that the Paternity Testing and Human Identification product line becomes profitable.
