Company Background

One Eighty is a consulting engineering company that graduated from the Acorn Technologies incubator in 2004. The company’s strengths lie in the areas of material design, selection and analysis, mechanical design, failure investigation and the testing of mechanical components.

One Eighty’s competitive advantage in the medical device industry lies in in-house protocol, which has been developed for the characterisation of wear debris in articulating spinal disc replacements. The firm also has a thorough knowledge of the FDA certification standards and is able to carry out much of the mechanical testing that is necessary to meet the FDA certification.

One Eighty’s knowledge, research skills and resources are unprecedented in the field of materials. The team is able to understand, modify and recommend new materials and processes. It also designs the equipment for many of the required processes.

Role of Intern

Greg is an engineer tasked with managing various projects, ranging from experimental analysis-based projects to material specification. He is also required to produce literature surveys, carry out lab experiments, design apparatus, analyse data, produce experimental matrices and write reports.
