Company Background
Synexa Life Sciences is a Cape Town-based biotechnology
company that focuses on commercialising the proprietary technology
and specialist services developed by its founders. The company
was launched in 2003, raising venture capital and BRIC funding
totalling R21-million to help fund its growth.
Synexa’s business comprises three unit, consisting
of Bioprocess Technology, which is focused on the development
and commercialisation of a novel bioreactor for the highly
efficient production of recombinant proteins and small molecules;
Compound Production, which manufactures and sells difficult-to-produce
small molecules to the global biomedical research market;
and Bioanalytical Services, which provides a range of specialist
analytical services to the clinical trials and health care
markets.
Each business unit is run with a strong focus on developing
new intellectual property, with the aim of providing world-class
products and services to a global biopharmaceutical market.
Role of Intern
Roger is the business analyst at Synexa. His role is to
conduct market research, drawing up business plans and develop
economic models for the various business opportunities that
Synexa may pursue. He has also developed Synexa’s first
web-based questionnaire survey and database screening methodologies.
In addition, he has participated in the R&D and production
sectors of the business.
